Developed in collaboration with Swiss Side the TimeShifter was created on the basis of transparent data extensive testing and measurable aerodynamic performance. The result: a time trial helmet that delivers significant aerodynamic advantages across all selected test configurations.

The Challenge: Speed is relative

Developing a time trial helmet is an enormous challenge: aerodynamic performance depends on many factors – from body measurements and riding position right through to race conditions. That is why there is no single helmet that is the fastest for everyone – the choice is highly individual. A model that delivers top results for one athlete may perform very differently for another.

That is why we have deliberately chosen not to make blanket aero claims. Instead the TimeShifter was tested compared and validated through an iterative development process:

  • 112 CFD simulations
  • 194 wind tunnel tests
  • 39 velodrome measurements

The result is not a helmet designed for a perfect laboratory position – but the most high-performance ABUS TT helmet to date designed to suit the widest possible range of riders and racing situations.

What happens when ABUS and Swiss Side combine their expertise? The result is a helmet that not only looks fast – but also demonstrates measurable aerodynamic benefits across extensive CFD wind tunnel and velodrome tests as well as across defined test configurations. For the aerodynamic development of the TimeShifter ABUS collaborated with Swiss Side – a high-performance team with roots in Formula 1 and extensive experience in developing aerodynamic solutions for triathlon and cycling.

The partnership with Swiss Side is more than just technical co-branding – it stands for transparency. With the new helmet we are presenting not just a product but a comprehensive performance report.

This document provides the basis for making informed decisions when choosing a helmet. The gold standard remains an individual test such as in a wind tunnel. However our data brings you as close as possible to the optimal choice for your personal setup.

Dual Visor Concept

Aerodynamic fine-tuning via two interchangeable visor shapes: Narrow and Wide.

Both visors influence how the helmet interacts with the shoulders arms cockpit setup and airflow. This means that the choice of visor can be specifically tailored to individual body and seating positions. Which configuration is aerodynamically optimal depends on the rider's specific setup. The visor is an integral part of the helmet design. Without a visor performance can deteriorate significantly.

Narrow Wide or Cut Visor? Find the right TimeShifter visor for your setup.

Wide Visor: Optimised for riders with broader shoulders or a more open arm position.

Narrow Visor: Optimised for compact setups narrow shoulder profiles or tight arm positions.

Cut Visor: In addition to the Narrow and Wide versions a Cut Visor is available. It has been specially developed to minimise interference in very tight cockpit setups.

  • Ponytail Fit: thanks to the opening in the height-adjustable adjustment system the helmet is also suitable for long hairstyles such as ponytails buns or braids
  • Forced Air Cooling: the ventilation openings are connected to each other via channels on the inside to guide incoming air through the helmet and thus ensure maximum air circulation and a pleasant head climate
  • Magnetic visor: visor attached by magnets to protect the eyes from wind rain and insects – easily removable and replaceable
  • Zoom™ Spin adjustment system: rotary wheel at the back of the head for individual adjustment of the helmet to the head size
  • Slide Divider™: for individual adjustment of the straps by sliding the strap divider – minimalist and functional
  • Comfort Pads: soft padded inserts for optimum comfort attached to the helmet with Velcro
  • Removable washable pads: can be removed and washed by hand or replaced if necessary
  • Magnetic buckle: the straps are fitted with a high-quality magnetic FIDLOCK buckle to enable the chin buckle to be opened with one hand even when wearing gloves
  • In-mould process: production process in which the inner cushioning material made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) is foamed directly into the outer shell made of polycarbonate (PC) – this creates a durable and robust connection
